Her Royal Highness's Yearly Christmas Service of Carols Spotlights Community Volunteers

The Princess of Wales is hosting her customary Christmas carol concert at the historic Abbey, with attendees featuring members of the royal family, famous faces, and community champions who have supported their local areas.

The 1,600 guests will enjoy a mix of festive songs, musical performances, and spoken word pieces from actors such as Chiwetel Ejiofor and Kate Winslet.

A Theme of Kindness and Compassion

The central message of the service, held in the candle-lit Abbey on the afternoon, is compassion and demonstrating care for others.

Attending the event are Anna and Jonathan Cordiner, whose young girl was lost to a tumour, and who founded an organisation, a support fund, to support families who have a terminally ill child.

"The dedication, empathy, and kindness you show, often discreetly and without words, and without any thought of thanks or praise, make an remarkable change to the circumstances of individuals," wrote Catherine in a note prior to the concert.

A Gradual Return

The royal has been undertaking her own measured re-emergence to official duties subsequent to her illness and medical care, recently giving her major oration since 2023, in which she talked about recognising the "discreet, frequently unseen labour of caregivers".

Music and Opportunity

Those coming to the Abbey can listen to talented youth performers aided by the Future Talent charity, set up with the help of the former royal to widen access to music lessons.

Carys Wood, aged 18, who performs on the trumpet and is from Wales, has been supported by the charity, with funding assisting with instruments, tuition, and transportation expenses - and she said it was "amazing" to be performing at tonight's service.

"Musical pursuits are frequently pricey," the musician remarked. She is now enrolled at the renowned conservatoire, and added that "each individual ought to be given the possibility" to develop their musical skills.

A Sisterly Duo

Eliza, Carys's sister who is 11, who plays the euphonium, will likewise attend the Abbey. "I never imagined I would perform in front of so many notable figures," she said.

Attending the service will be people from various age groups.

That will encompass Saphia Turner, aged nine, recipient of a young hero award, who produces drawings and undertakes charity feats to generate funds for food banks.

Seasonal Ambiance and Entertainment

The Abbey has been adorned with handcrafted festive wreaths, with celebrity baker Mary Berry and floral designer Simon Lycett contributing to their design.

Taking to the stage will be singer Katie Melua, the Abbey's own choir and a Cornish sea shanty group, Fisherman's Friends, who said the chance to take part was "the perfect culmination."

The Together at Christmas carol concert will be televised and shown on television on December 24th.
